icon help.

Does anyone know how to create the effect in the icon I'm using? I tried cheating by cutting and pasting a selection on to a background, but it looks jagged and shitty.

If someone could provide a tutorial (PSP translatable!) I'd appreciate it.

I don't know how much of this translates to PSP, but this tutorial is pretty helpful:

Otherwise I just use layer masks. You add one and draw in black over the parts you don't want, and draw in white the parts you do want... this site explains it better than I do.
