I'm feeling nerdy, so here's a book meme yanked from [livejournal.com profile] shellizzle .

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?
I almost never buy hardback books. They're uncomfortable to hold. I'll buy the book if it's not available in paperback, however. As for paperbacks, I'll buy what I can get my hands on.

Amazon or brick and mortar?
Mostly brick and mortar. Although, if I'm interested in a book that hasn't been released, I'll check Half.com for any advanced reader copies. That's what I did with Julie & Julia.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Barnes & Noble, definitely. Not only is it practically in my backyard, but I love that I can buy a caramel macchiato with my Entertainment Weekly.

Bookmark or dog-ear?
I use gum wrappers and receipts, lol.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random?
Let me admit to some truly anal behavior: I stack (not line!) then by size. Author and book titles are irrelevant. I'm all about the feng shui.

Keep, throw away, or sell?
I keep everything. Even the books I hate.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?
I'll keep it and take it off if I'm reading it.

Read with dust jacket or remove it?
Look up, fool.

Short story or novel?
I really do prefer short stories/essays. I'm kind of ADD when it comes to books and it's hard for a novel to hold my attention unless it's mind numbingly addicting.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Francesca Lia Block. Fantasy is this woman's bitch.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I'll suffer through the exhaustion to finish a chapter, and then I'll reread it the next day when I'm focused.

"it was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?
I much prefer "She woke up the next morning with stinging eyes, a heel under her pillow and a condom hanging from her ear." Trashy chick lit FTW! (I totally made that line up, by the way.)

Buy or borrow?
I usually buy, but there have been a couple that I've borrowed. Although, I'm not sure it's considered borrowing if it was left here. Hmm.

New or used?
Mostly new, but the advanced reader's copies I buy online are almost always used.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?
All of the above? Mostly recommendations, I guess.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
You can't NOT give me an ending. I'll cry.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?
Anytime.

Stand-alone or series?
Stand-alones. I'm horrible at keeping up with book series. I'm still not caught up with Harry Potter. Whatevs.

Favorite series?
Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Books. FLB owns me, you guys.

Favorite children's book?
Papa, Please Bring Me The Moon. I was enamored with the huge fold-out poster of the moon.

Favorite YA book?
The Perks of Being A Wallflower. I wasn't too much into YA novels outside of that though.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
I think Julie & Julia. The author appeared on the Martha Stewart show, but the novel went largely unnoticed.

Favorite books read last year?
The Lovely Bones. Also, I read Anderson Cooper's memoir. The photos were awfully pretty, lmao.

Favorite books of all time?
Do my cookbooks count? Because I love them more than any other book in the world.

Least favorite book you finished last year?
I tried my hand at The DaVinci Code but I was bored to tears by chapter five.

What are you reading right now?
I've been skipping around an essay book called Gig: Americans Talk About Their Jobs. For those of you who recognize the title, it's probably because Jenna Fischer recommended it on her MySpace. Hee.

Favorite book to recommend to an eleven-year-old?
The Stinky Cheese Man. It changed my life.

Favorite book to reread?
America: The Book. It still brings the funny.

Do you ever smell books?
It's my second favorite smell, my first being the bread aisle at the market.

Do you ever read Primary source documents?
Absolutely, I do. I think.
