So, [livejournal.com profile] sonjamillicent shared some of her favorite songs through the magic of YouTube and threatened virtual harm if the rest of us didn't do the same. Because I don't want to be cyber-shanked, I'm doing as she says.

Somehow, my list turned into a compilation of my favorite songs (and their weird as fuck videos) from the mostly-90's. It made me all nostalgic and shit. I almost want to smudge my eyeliner and draw sharpie doodles on my artfully torn jeans. Almost.

Imani Coppola - Legend of a Cowgirl
It always baffles me that people don't know this song. It's been a constant favorite of mine for years. It's probably the first song I got into on my own. Up until then, my music collection was filled with gangsta rap selections from my brother and my mom's Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men albums. I thank Imani regularly for being the catalyst that allowed me to listen to what it was that *I* liked.

Toadies - Tyler
Yeah, sure. "Possum Kingdom" is a great song, but it is completely trumped by this tale of stalking and voyeurism. The video's in pretty dismal condition (but check out the 120 Minutes tag. Woah!). This video is much clearer, but embedding was disabled.

Better Than Ezra - Desperately Wanting
I didn't discover this song until high school, but when I did I fell and I fell HARD. I think anyone going through a hard time is looking for someone to pull them out of whatever bullshit they're going through and into happier times. That, and Kevin Griffin's tall, lanky hotness is blistering.

Fuel - Shimmer
Seriously? This song was with me all throughout high school. I went to Fuel's free concert in Providence back in '99 and it remains one of my favorite memories. I admit to being an emo teen, and I really felt their music spoke to me. Also, I'm really glad that Chris Daughtry stayed the fuck away from this band. I'd have had to cut a bitch otherwise.

Scarlet - Independent Love Song
No, I don't love this song because of that god awful Bed of Rose chick flick disaster. I actually had never heard it until it was used in the very first previews of NBC's now-depressingly-defunct American Dreams. (I still have slow-mo visions of Meg Pryor dancing on Bandstand. Sigh.) I've been in love with this song since. This is also a perfect example of the weird as fuck videos that dominated MTV in the 90's.

Ryan Starr - Enjoy The Silence
That's right. I'm sweeping Depeche Mode under the rug and shining the spotlight on my favorite contestant from last year's Rockstar: Supernova competition. I'm pretty sure this performance tried to put a baby in me. I felt the penetration. For those of you interested, here's a "reinterpretated" version of Depeche Mode's original. Trust me when I tell you it is AMAZING.

Christina Aguilera - Come on Over
*sings* "One of these things is not like the other..." This song just fucking rocks and the video is delicious. (Dance break!) Enjoy!

Sister Act - Hail Holy Queen
Do I even need to explain this shit? It's Sister Act, y'all! Here's some more videos!
