October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

It's estimated that, before the year is over, 182,460 women will be diagnosed with the disease. 40,480 will die from it (Source).

The National Cancer Institute estimates that, based on current rates, 12.7% of American women born today will be diagnosed with breast cancer (Source).

70% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. However, if you have a first-degree relative (parent, sibling or child) who has had, your risk for being diagnosed doubles (Source).

A woman’s chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer is about 1 in 233 when she's in her 30s and rises to 1 in 8 by the time she’s reached 85 (Source).
